Innovation Mission Taiwan: Integrated Photonics, Advanced Packaging, and Quantum Technology

Date
02-09-2024 / 06-09-2024
Time
Location
Taiwan

Are you active in the field of integrated photonics, advanced packaging of semiconductors, or quantum technology, and are you interested in exploring the opportunities and developments of these key technologies in Taiwan with us? Then join this innovation mission to Taiwan from 2-6 September 2024.

Integrated photonics, advanced packaging, and quantum technology are important technologies in both the Netherlands and Taiwan. In addition to major companies such as TSMC, Mediatek, UMC, ASE, and SPIL, Taiwan has an extensive ecosystem in each of these domains. Additionally, the Netherlands, with various national programmes focused on these topics, holds a unique position, and this mission offers a unique opportunity to deepen cooperation with the largest semiconductor production location and the unique and innovative ecosystem in Taiwan and to scale up the latest technologies. The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) organises this mission in close collaboration with PhotonDelta.

Mission objectives:

  • Strengthening relationships with potential partners for joint research, development, and commercialisation of technological innovations in the production of photonic chips, advanced packaging, heterogeneous integration, chiplet technology, compound semiconductor materials, and quantum technology.
  • Intensifying bilateral cooperation between government, business, and knowledge institutions.
  • Further developing bilateral arrangements and programmes to support cooperation.

Mission programme concept:

We will try to incorporate the specific wishes of the participants as much as possible into the development of the programme. The draft programme:

  • Monday: NL – TW Innovation Cooperation Conference
  • Tuesday: Meetings: Heterogenous Integration Association & National Quantum Team
  • Wednesday: SEMICON Taiwan
  • Thursday: Visit/Lab Tour Industrial Technology Research Institute
  • Friday: Company visit

Who should attend:

This innovation mission is primarily intended for professionals from industries and knowledge institutions working on integrated photonics, advanced packaging, and/or quantum technology.

Costs:

The participation fee for the innovation mission is €250 per person. This includes participation in the collective programme, transfers to and from programme components, lunch, and dinners if mentioned in the programme. Participation excludes travel and accommodation costs, all individual costs, and possible costs for matchmaking.

Please note that, as an innovation mission participant, we will also visit SEMICON Taiwan, but you will not have a presence (logo or similar) at the Holland Pavilion. See below if you are interested in pavilion participation.

Registration:

Would you like to participate in this innovation mission? Register before Wednesday, 15 May via the online registration form (insert registration link here).

We strive for a maximum of 1 participant per organisation. Depending on the number of registrations, a second participant may be allowed. Final participation depends on the number of available spots. We will also consider how well your expertise fits within the scope and purpose of the mission. Registration, therefore, does not guarantee acceptance of the mission. You will receive a final confirmation of participation after the registration deadline.

SEMICON Taiwan 2024 Exhibition Participation: SEMICON Taiwan is the most important annual event for the micro- and nanoelectronics industry in Taiwan and one of the largest trade fairs for the semiconductor industry in the world, with over 45,000 visitors and 700 international exhibitors.

As part of the innovation mission, we will visit the SEMICON Taiwan exhibition for one day (we will arrange visitor passes for everyone), where everyone can walk around and make appointments with relevant Taiwanese companies. There is also the opportunity to participate in the SEMICON Taiwan Exhibition with a stand at the Holland High Tech Pavilion. If you are interested in participating in the so-called “business delegation,” please contact Matthijs van der Hoorn, Head of Economic Affairs at the Netherlands Office Taipei, via matthijs-vander.hoorn@nlot.org.tw or register via https://www.hightechnl.nl/semiconductors/agenda/semicon-taiwan-2024/. Your contribution for participation in the pavilion is €2,500 (excl. VAT), with a maximum of 10 places available.

Corporate social responsibility:

The Dutch government gives great importance to corporate social responsibility and endorses the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises. These contain the CSR standards for internationally active entrepreneurs. Adhering to these OECD guidelines is one of the conditions for participating in this mission. To assess whether your company or organisation meets these conditions, we ask you to complete a CSR self-scan after registration.
